Nabi’s Exit Leaves Kaizer Chiefs Facing Uncertain Future
Kaizer Chiefs are grappling with uncertainty after confirming that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is no longer part of the squad..
The 60-year-old Tunisian tactician took charge in July 2024 on a two-year deal and delivered early success, guiding Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup and giving several youngsters their first taste of big league action.
However, his tenure was cut short after only three league matches this season: a goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows, and a 3-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United.
Chiefs issued a statement on Friday morning, 19 September, explaining the situation as “internal in nature”, while confirming: “The Club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period.”
Nabi, recently speaking to a local publication, said: “My separation from Kaizer Chiefs was a mutual agreement with the club’s management… I need some time to rest, focus more on my family, and monitor my wife’s health.”
Supporters and public figures reacted swiftly, with actor Wiseman Mncube offering thanks and gratitude, while DJ Oscar Mbo criticised the handling of Nabi’s coaching licence.
For now, assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze may be tasked with steadying the ship.
